NYU Tisch recognizes Emily’s Dramatists Guild Stephen Schwartz Award

Because NYU Tisch has a Graduate Acting programme and a Musical Theatre writing programme, sometimes people think that I went to NYU for writing! It is a real honour to have been noticed by the folks at NYU as an alumni of my actual graduate school, the Graduate Acting programme.

Thank you to NYU for making a news post about my Dramatists Guild Stephen Schwartz Composer Award!

Here’s the text of the page below:

Congratulations to class of 2013's Emily Gardner Xu Hall for being chosen as the recipient of the 2021 Dramatists Guild Stephen Schwartz Award as a composer, lyricist, and librettist.

"The Stephen Schwartz Award is a pledge to the future of musical theatre. Selected by a private committee of composers and industry leaders, the $10,000 Award is given annually to a musical theatre writer whose voice is seen as critical to the continued success of the craft, in unconditional support of their work."

Some of Emily's current projects include a commissioned musical with the Atlantic Theatre Company, the development of a feminist musical reinvention of the Chekhov play, "Cherry Orchard," and the continued work on her play with music, "MEI-DO."
